Welcome to the Institute of Comparative Law at University of Szeged and thank you for your interest in our LL.M. Program. During your studies at the University of Szeged, you will be placed in a stimulating learning environment, as expected from one of the best and leading universities in Hungary. Overview
This course provides thorough professional and theoretical education for students interested in the investment and commercial environment of the European Union. Students who intend to be corporate managers or emissaries in diplomacy or aspire to build successful legal careers in connection with the EU in any other field will also benefit from the course. Students having completed their studies in this course may prove more successful and efficient inrepresenting and attaining national, international, economic, scientific and cultural interests and objectives.
Successful completion of the course also provides students with extremely solid support and education in the field of investment and investment planning, strategies noand business partnerships. Furthermore, offering qualifications in the field of legal and administrative tasks and arrangements, it also conveys considerable know-how in the field of litigation, investment litigation and mediation in the EU. Finally, the course is specially designed to present excellent opportunities for state, non-profit and various other organizations such as commercial, trade and legal chambers to delegate students to the program.

Application Terms
According to the degree type, our postgraduate training offers two streams. One for lawyers [Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Inter- national and European Trade and Investment Law], and one for 3non-lawyers (Legal Consultant in International and European Trade and Investment Law). For those who would like to join the Training, it is an essential condition to have at least a bachelor degree. The Program also offers a certificate for those holding a BA degree at the end of the 2nd semester. Students with a master’s degree will receive a new Legal Master’s degree (LL.M.) The Program is organised not only for students having a degree in law, but also for those who completed their studies in the field of social sciences. Applicants must demonstrate an excellent command of the English language. Also, applicants will be required to submit an internationally accredited language exam certificate (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or GRE).
Application dates and tuition fees
Training starts in the September of the upcoming Academic year. Application can be submitted via the Dream Apply system. This page also contains details regarding required documents.
An application fee of 35 EUR and entrance exam fee of 50 EUR will apply for every submitted application. Third country (non-EU) citizens will have to pay 1,600 EUR/semester for the first year (3,200 EUR in total) and 500 EUR for the third semester.
Accommodation, health insurance and visa
We must emphasize that the tuition fee does not cover the expenditures below. Although the Pro Talentis Universitatis Fund helps students in the proceedings regarding the visa (if it is necessary for third country citizens) and health insurance. The fund also helps to find proper accommodation in the city of Szeged.
The administrative fee for the bureaucratic procedures is USD 100/semester. Our Fund is in contact with real estate agencies, hostels and student dormitories. Depending on the student’s wishes, they can offer flat for rent (from EUR 300–600 per month), or a single room in a dormitory for EUR 200–300 per month). Please note that the above-mentioned amounts are only estimates.
Core Subjects
There are several core subjects which form the basis of the LL.M. There are additional compulsory courses as well. The LL.M. Program is designed to allow students to choose from a wide range of elective specialized courses. This flexibility allows students to either diversify into several areas of the law or to choose one particular area enabling them to gain a spe- cialized LL.M. degree. In addition to the core modules, there is a 20-page dissertation to be supervised by one of the course teachers overseeing the students’ progress.
The modules will be assessed by either written or oral exami- nations. Each examination follows a multi-stage testing system. The dissertation is worth 5 credits, the preparatory and intro- ductory courses are 27 credits, the compulsory courses are 16 credits and the elective courses are 12 credits. Students must successfully complete all parts of the program in order to be awarded the LLM degree or certificate.
There are also two streams of studies which may be pursued by the students. For law graduates there is the “law stream” with classes that are effectively tailored to their legal backgrounds. As for non-law graduates, they may obtain a specialized LL.M. with classes focusing on providing them with a more nuanced education.
Final Exams
In order to be admitted to the final (state) exam, all the credits have to be acquired for the compulsory and the elective courses, and the final thesis has to be submitted to the elected supervisor. The final (state) exam will consist of two parts: defence of the thesis and an oral exam.
Guest Lecturers
Guest Lecturers are professionals are internationally recognised lecturers who are experts in their respective fields. These professionals are invited by the Institute of Comparative Law to hold classes within the remit of this program. Their classes complement and complete the training of students in the LL.M. Program and help to further the academic studies of the students enrolled in our LL.M. Program.
Library
The University Library [József Attila Tanulmányi és Információs Központ (TIK)] resources are available for students of the Master’s program. A Student Card is needed in order to gain access to the library and to borrow a book.
